  • Traffic in the village – June 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed another month when it should have been in Langley with Hardley, but they have still not been able to identify a volunteer to manage the device there.  Until they do, the monitor will remain in Claxton, and of course it will be deployed here from July to September as part of its routine schedule.  It is quite possible we will have it for the whole of 2023.  Any news on this issue will appear on these pages. • Traffic in the village – May 2023 update

It looks very much as though we will end up keeping it for at least the first nine months of 2023.  Any news on this issue will appear on these pages. • Speeding in the village – April 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed the first month of Langley with Hardley’s deployment, as they have still not been able to identify a volunteer to manage the device there.  Until they do, the monitor will remain in Claxton, and of course it will be deployed here from July to September as part of its routine schedule.  It is possible that we will end up keeping it for at least the first nine months of 2023.  Updates to this will appear on these pages. • Speeding in the village – March 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed the third month of its current deployment in Claxton, located on The Warren facing north towards the Village Hall, Rockland and Norwich.  It will remain in Claxton while Langley with Hardley (LwH) Parish Council continue their search for someone to look after it on its agreed 3-month deployments in LwH, and of course Claxton’s second 3-month stint of the year starts on 1 July.  As matters stand, it looks likely that we will have it for most of 2023.

The table below covers the period from 1-31 March.

What does it show?  That 4 out of every 5 drivers drove through within the 30MPH speed limit (an improvement on February), and that >96% were in or just over that limit (the same as last month).

Regrettably it also shows 55 times when cars came through in excess of 40MPH, including one over 50MPH, which is completely unacceptable.  That this happened just after midday on a Monday (27 March) just makes it more unbelievable.

A small team of volunteers will shortly be undertaking training to become Claxton’s first Community Speed Watch Team.  If (like your Site Manager) you are appalled at the behaviour of some drivers, why not put yourself forward for this Team?  You don’t have to do it every day – just every so often.

  • Bus Service Consultation ahead of new contract in September 2023

The County Council’s contract with Our Bus to provide local bus services runs out in September and the process for appointing a new (or the same) provider is currently under way.

    The Good News

The good news is that no changes are being planned to the 3-times daily service which Claxton currently enjoys.  But if you wish to propose changes you are invited to make your views known by 17 April to the County Council as follows:

  • Road Closure south-east of Claxton Corner, 5-6 April

The Councty Council have informed us that the stretch of road south-east of Claxton Corner will be closed for 2 days (5 and 6 April) so that a section of the road which has sunk badly can be repaired.  Full details are in the attached document.

    Claxton-STRO7927-PT.docx

It means diverting along Church Lane (from the Rockland end of the village) or along Folly Lane (from the Carleton St Peter end).  Hopefully this will not run into the Easter weekend.

  • Speeding in the village – February 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed the second month of its current deployment in Claxton, located down from the Village Hall facing traffic coming from the direction of Rockland and Norwich.

The table below covers the period from 1-28 February.

What does it show?  That just over 3 out of every 4 drivers drove through within the 30MPH speed limit, and that 96% were in or just over that limit.

Regrettably it also shows 58 times when cars came through in excess of 40MPH, which is completely unacceptable.

Elsewhere on this site there is mention of a planned Community Speed Watch Team.  If (like your Site Manager) you are appalled at the behaviour of some drivers, why not put yourself forward for this Team?  You don’t have to do it every day – just every so often.

  • Speeding in the village – January 2023 update

We collected the shared SAM2 speed monitor from Langley with Hardley at the turn of the year and it has been deployed in Claxton since 5 January, located down from the Village Hall facing traffic coming from the direction of Loddon.  We had had the fault fixed the day before.

The table below covers the period from 5-31 January.

What does it show?  That 3 in 4 drivers drove through within the 30MPH speed limit, and that 95% were in or just over that limit.

Regrettably it also shows 79 times when cars came through in excess of 40MPH, which is completely unacceptable.  In the worst cases, on Saturday 14 January at 2205 and Friday 27 January at 1850 – both in the dark – someone drove through the village at between 51 and 55MPH.  In whose mind is that in any way a reasonable thing to do?

Elsewhere on this site there is mention of a Community Speed Watch Team.  If (like your Site Manager) you are appalled at the behaviour of some drivers, why not put yourself forward for this Team?  You don’t have to do it every day – just every so often.
