Speeding in the village – March 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed the third month of its current deployment in Claxton, located on The Warren facing north towards the Village Hall, Rockland and Norwich.  It will remain in Claxton while Langley with Hardley (LwH) Parish Council continue their search for someone to look after it on its agreed 3-month deployments in LwH, and of course Claxton’s second 3-month stint of the year starts on 1 July.  As matters stand, it looks likely that we will have it for most of 2023.

The table below covers the period from 1-31 March.

What does it show?  That 4 out of every 5 drivers drove through within the 30MPH speed limit (an improvement on February), and that >96% were in or just over that limit (the same as last month).

Regrettably it also shows 55 times when cars came through in excess of 40MPH, including one over 50MPH, which is completely unacceptable.  That this happened just after midday on a Monday (27 March) just makes it more unbelievable.

A small team of volunteers will shortly be undertaking training to become Claxton’s first Community Speed Watch Team.  If (like your Site Manager) you are appalled at the behaviour of some drivers, why not put yourself forward for this Team?  You don’t have to do it every day – just every so often.
