Speeding in the village – January 2023 update

We collected the shared SAM2 speed monitor from Langley with Hardley at the turn of the year and it has been deployed in Claxton since 5 January, located down from the Village Hall facing traffic coming from the direction of Loddon.  We had had the fault fixed the day before.

The table below covers the period from 5-31 January.

What does it show?  That 3 in 4 drivers drove through within the 30MPH speed limit, and that 95% were in or just over that limit.

Regrettably it also shows 79 times when cars came through in excess of 40MPH, which is completely unacceptable.  In the worst cases, on Saturday 14 January at 2205 and Friday 27 January at 1850 – both in the dark – someone drove through the village at between 51 and 55MPH.  In whose mind is that in any way a reasonable thing to do?

Elsewhere on this site there is mention of a Community Speed Watch Team.  If (like your Site Manager) you are appalled at the behaviour of some drivers, why not put yourself forward for this Team?  You don’t have to do it every day – just every so often.
