Traffic in the village – May 2023 update

The shared SAM2 speed monitor has just completed another month when it should have been in Langley with Hardley, but they have still not been able to identify a volunteer to manage the device there.  Until they do, the monitor will remain in Claxton, and of course it will be deployed here from July to September as part of its routine schedule.  It looks very much as though we will end up keeping it for at least the first nine months of 2023.  Any news on this issue will appear on these pages.

The table below covers the period from 1-31 May, when the device was at the Village Hall facing towards Carleton St Peter and Loddon.

What does it show?  The picture isn’t anywhere near as good as April.  3 out of every 4 vehicles coming through the village from the south-west drove through within the 30MPH speed limit, and >96% were in or just over that limit.

We have looked closely at the data to see if there is a pattern, but can’t find one.  The days/times of the worst 9 offenders were as follows:

Saturday 6 May at 0015 = 46-50MPH, Sunday 7 May at 1445 = 46-50MPH, Monday 8 May at 2210 = 56-60MPH, Tuesday 16 May at 0855 (a school day) = 51-55MPH, Sunday 21 May at 0620 = 46-50MPH, Tuesday 23 May (another school day) at 1500 = 51-55MPH and at 1725 = 46-50MPH, Sunday 28 May at 1200 = 51-55MPH and Tuesday 30 May at 0455 = 46-50MPH.

Our fledgling Community Speed Watch team are also trying to organise a couple of sessions, but are struggling with non-availability of members, so the more volunteers we have the better.
