This week’s services and events; Rev John Ledward’s funeral
I hope you are keeping well. Here is this week’s news from the Benefice and Barn:
This Sunday (Jan 28th) is Candlemas Sunday, marking the end of the 40 days of Christmas. We’re gathering for a Benefice Communion with candlelit procession at Bramerton. Still with the Christ Child at The Barn, 4pm, connects us with Jesus in his early life before we turn towards Lent, with music, readings, reflection and response.
On Monday (29th) Warm Welcome at The Barn is open between 11am and 4pm. Drop in and see us for hot drinks, homemade cakes, soup and more!
The following Sunday (Feb 4th) sees a 9.30am Communion at Claxton and 11am Morning prayer at Carleton St. Peter.
Looking further ahead:
Revd John Ledward’s funeral will take place on February 16th, 1.30pm in Brundall Church. We give thanks for his life and continue to pray for his family at this sad time.

I hope you are keeping well. Here is this week’s news from the Benefice and Barn:
This Sunday’s services (Jan 14th) are 9.30am Communion at Rockland St. Mary and 11am Communion at Surlingham.
On Monday (15th) Warm Welcome at The Barn re-opens between 11am and 4pm for the new season, ending on March 18th. My thanks go to our dedicated team of volunteers for making this happen. Drop in and see us for hot drinks, homemade cakes, soup and more!
Wednesday’s Online Art Cafe at 10.30am (17th) is a presentation on Textiles and Art given by Daisy Pollock-Gray, Marketing Manager at Watts & Co., Westminster. Daisy and her colleagues work with designs over 150 years old in new and innovative ways. Please contact me for your Zoom invitation.
On Wednesday evening, the Group Council meets in The Barn at 7pm.
Saturday’s Stained Glass Workshop (20th, 10am-1pm) is almost fully booked, so please contact me asap if you would like a place. The event is free – donations towards costs / The Barn welcome.
The following Sunday (Jan 21st) sees something different in Claxton. From 10am-11am in Claxton & Carleton Village Hall, Stars and Crowns is an all-age gathering for worship, activities and refreshments. Please feel free to contact me or Helen for further information. There will be Communion at Kirby Bedon, 11am.

Tues 23rd: 10am Celtic Prayer in Surlingham Church porch.
Wed 24th: 10am-1pm Winter Art Morning at the Barn (free, donations welcome)
Sun 28th: 10am Benefice Candlemas Communion at Bramerton
4pm Still with Emmanuel at The BarnFinally, I have received the sad news that Revd Dr John Ledward, formerly incumbent here, has died recently. John was a faithful and gentle pastor who was a great encouragement to others. We give thanks for his life and pray for his family at this sad time.

Traffic in the Village – December update
We had the Speed Monitor for the whole of 2023. This month is the start of our regular rotation in Claxton so we will keep the device till at least the end of March. Whether it stays longer depends on Langley with Hardley Parish Council finding and training a volunteer to manage it during their regular 3-month rotations.
In December the Monitor was on The Warren facing south towards Loddon. The table below covers the whole month.

Traffic in the Village – November update
We have had the Speed Monitor for the whole of 2023 to date and will now keep it for the whole year, as Langley with Hardley Parish Council have not yet found a volunteer who can be trained to manage it for their regular 3-month rotations. The period January-March 2024 is “our” rotation anyway so we are slowly getting used to the monitor spending all its time in Claxton.
In November the Monitor was outside the Village Hall facing south towards Loddon. The table below covers the whole month.

Christmas Wassail at St Andrew’s Church, 17 December, 2pm
This year’s Wassail will be in just over 2 weeks’ time, on Sunday17 December starting at 2pm. Details are on the poster below. We hope you will come along and join in what is always a very enjoyable occasion.
