Traffic in the Village – November update

We have had the Speed Monitor for the whole of 2023 to date and will now keep it for the whole year, as Langley with Hardley Parish Council have not yet found a volunteer who can be trained to manage it for their regular 3-month rotations.  The period January-March 2024 is “our” rotation anyway so we are slowly getting used to the monitor spending all its time in Claxton.

In November the Monitor was outside the Village Hall facing south towards Loddon.  The table below covers the whole month.

What does it show?  7% more traffic in the month than in October, and similar percentage increases across the higher speeds.  Thankfully there were no incidents of vehicles driving at over 50MPH but we would argue that anything over 40MPH in our village is dangerous, with speeds over 35MPH taking an unnecessary risk of unforeseen incidents (children in the road, elderly villagers unable to react as fast as they used to, animals crossing etc).

The efforts of the village’s Community Speedwatch team are at least managing to cap the speed of most vehicles, but as the warning signs have to be put out at both ends of the village, this is hardly surprising.  It’s those who appear to not care who are the most worrying.  You know who you are.
