The first Quiz during the winter took place at the Village Hall on Saturday evening, 22 February. 62 enthusiastic quizzers turned out to enjoy a challenging but – hopefully – enjoyable Quiz. This could be set to be a feature of the calendar going forward.
Thanks go to the ladies who prepared, served and cleared the delicious food, the bar staff who looked after more liquid needs and the Quizmaster and Assistant who delivered the quiz. After around 3 hours of head scratching, one of the village’s own teams, The Bookworms, ran out fairly comfortable winners, having gained a huge head start by using their Joker to great effect in Round 1. The scoreboard is below. Well done everyone, and we hope to see you back in the summer. Details will follow nearer the time.
Your local yoga class needs YOU. Our numbers are dwindling and we need more people to keep it going!
Classes are held at Claxton and Carleton St Peter Village Hall on a Thursday morning from 10-11am. Each class costs £6 and all you need is a yoga mat and loose clothing. It is a class for all ages and both gentlemen and ladies attend. The atmosphere is very informal and we have plenty of laughs. If you need any more information do call our lovely teacher, Caroline on 07754-116410.
An illustrated talk by Martin Lines will be held on 10th October 2019. Further details can be found on the poster below.
For a long time now, residents of the village have been voicing their concern about the number of vehicles that regularly drive through the village way above the legal speed limit of 30MPH. The Parish Council has discussed this at various times with the authorities but come up against the same challenge every time – to provide incontrovertible evidence of speeding.
The Parish Council is therefore pleased to announce its acquisition of a shared Speed Awareness Monitor (SAM2) which is jointly owned with Langley with Hardley Parish Council. The two Councils have agreed on a sharing arrangement which will see the SAM2 deployed in each village for 3 months at a time. During that 3 months the SAM2 has by law to be relocated at least twice and cannot return to its first position during that period.
The SAM2 went live in Claxton on 28 August (see photo right). Data from the monitor will be downloaded every time the monitor is relocated and will be made available at Parish Council meetings. Depending on what the data shows, the Parish Council will decide on appropriate follow-up action.
A generous grant from Claxton Parish Pit Charity (the Pits Trust) made it possible for Claxton to jointly own this device.
