• This week’s services and events, 5-12 November

    Dear All

I hope you are keeping well. Here is this week’s news from the Benefice and Barn:

This Sunday’s services (Nov 5th) are 9.30am Communion at Claxton and 11am Morning Prayer at Carleton St. Peter. We’re gathering in The Barn at 4pm for Still with Saints – a warm invitation to all to

come and be Still on All Saints’ Sunday, with music, silence, creative response and refreshment
as we contemplate the Community of Saints who guide and bless our living.
On Monday (6th) Warm Welcome at The Barn begins its weekly Winter opening between 11am and 4pm. Drop in to see us and enjoy hot drinks, homemade cakes, soup and more!
At this week’s Online Art Cafe on Wednesday (8th, 10.30am), we’re looking at Wilf Perreault: In the Alley. Wilf is a Canadian artist whose work focusses on the vanishing world of the alleyway. Here is your Zoom invitation.
The following Sunday (Nov 12th) is Remembrance Sunday. We will remember those who gave their lives from our villages and pray for peace and justice in our world today at our morning services: Rockland St. Mary at 9.30am; 10.50am at Bramerton, Claxton, Kirby Bedon and Surlingham.

Looking further ahead, we’re holding our annual Tree of Light Service on Sunday December 3rd, 3.30pm. This service is intended to support anyone who’s bereaved and invitation cards and stars will be placed in the back of church in the week ahead. Please feel free to contact me or Helen for further information.

Thank you to everyone who has generously donated to Bishop Graham’s Ahli Hospital Appeal online or via The Rectory. I have forwarded £180 towards the hospital’s vital work.

     Best wishes,

     Nick

The Festival is open today until 4.30pm (Aug 5th) and tomorrow (6th) from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Sunday’s services (6th) are 9.30am Communion at Claxton, 11am Communion at Rockland St. Mary and 4pm Evensong at Bramerton.

  • Sunday services (June 18th and 25th) and forthcoming events

    Dear All,
I hope that you are enjoying the weather and, if you’re a cricket fan, the start of the Ashes!
This Sunday’s services (18th) are 9.30am Morning Worship at Claxton and 11am Communion at Kirby Bedon.
Next Sunday (June 25th) sees communion services at 9.30am Surlingham and 11am Bramerton.  Cafe Church meets in Rockland Parish Room on the theme ‘The Cost of Living’.  Please drop in anytime between 10.30am and 12 Noon.  At 4pm ‘Still with the Sun’ in the Barn we reflect on the sun’s power and symbolism through words, music, stillness and refreshment.
Looking ahead, Warm Welcome at the Barn is happening on June 26th, 11am to 2.30pm.  All welcome for refreshments, lunches and good company!
Celtic Prayer meets in Surlingham Church porch at 10am on June 27th for quiet prayer and reflection in a peaceful setting.
June’s Art Café in the Barn is open from 10.30am – 12 Noon on Wednesday 28th.  Come along for fresh coffee cake, and the chance to experience some nature art!
Sadly for us, Revd Cate Turner has been appointed to a new ministry (to be announced later).  She will be greatly missed for all she has contributed during her three year curacy in Thurton benefice and valuable contributions she has made to our benefice.  July 30th will be her final Sunday, so it feels appropriate that we should say farewell to Cate and Iain in their benefice, at an 11am communion service in Bergh Apton, followed by a bring and share lunch in the churchyard (or village hall if wet).  This replaces the Hellington service advertised in Eleven Says.
Finally, may I offer a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who supported Christian Aid Week so generously.  £185.66 (including gift aid) was raised at May’s Warm Welcome and through donation envelopes received from the benefice.
    Best wishes,
    Nick
