The Community Governance Review undertaken in 2017/18 has been considered and determined by Full Council.

There will be no changes to the structure of Claxton Parish Council or any neighbouring Parish Councils.  An original proposal to merge Ashby St Mary with Thurton was discarded following strong protests by both villages.

  • Changes to 85 Bus Service from 18 September 2017

The County Council have notified us of some timetable changes to the service 85, to reflect the addition of Claxton to the service, with effect from Monday 18 September.  Service 85A is being withdrawn barring a feeder service to Loddon on college days.

The new Service 85 timetable and Claxton-specific information is set out below.

    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The 85A connections through Loddon will cease.  Instead the County is creating 3 full return services from Claxton to Norwich, running 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday.  Details are as follows:

  • Fighting fly tipping

South Norfolk Council are currently seeing high levels of fly tipping and littering in South Norfolk.  Both of these have a negative impact on the environment and human health. They have often found that fly tipping has occurred because residents have given their waste to unregistered waste carriers who have in turn fly tipped the waste, and hope to protect residents from this form of activity.  Bulky Waste Collection_A4-small.compressed

  • Know before you throw – new film to encourage recycling

Ever found yourself wondering exactly what you can recycle? Watch a new video to find out what you can and can’t take to recycling centres, and the other services available while you are there.

Norfolk County Council has produced a short film to promote our recycling centre service. The principal message is to encourage residents to reuse and recycle as much of their household waste as possible, thereby helping the council to save money on waste disposal.

The film encourages people to sort their reuse and recycling items in advance of their visit, to place their items in the correct containers when they arrive on site and to ask for staff for assistance if required.  Just click below.

  • Death of Derek Blake

It is with great sadness that we report the unexpected death of Derek Blake, our District and County Councillor, less than two months after his re-election to District and first election to the County Council.

Derek was known as a man who made things happen, and most if not all of “his” Parishes will have some development which Derek had a hand in delivering.

He will be sorely missed and our condolences go to his family, his friends and all who were fortunate enough to benefit from his energy and tenacity.

  • Broadband in Claxton: Reply from Richard Bacon MP

At its meeting on 17 September, the Parish Council approved the draft letter from the Parish Clerk to Richard Bacon MP, drawing his attention to the poor internet service enjoyed by Claxton residents, and the low level of confidence that this will be fixed by the Better Broadband for Norfolk Project.  A copy of Mr Bacon’s reply is below.Richard Bacon reply
