Speeding in the village – May 2022 update

The SAM2 has now completed its latest deployment in Claxton, and has now moved to Langley with Hardley (LwH) for the next 3 months.  The location in May was the 30MPH repeater post at The Warren, facing north-west towards Rockland St Mary and Norwich.  We have downloaded the statistics for the month and these are shown below.

First the good news.  Despite 19% more vehicles coming through compared to April, the percentage within the 30MPH speed limit was higher (82.3% against 75.9%), and the percentage in the next category (31-35MPH) down by over 5%.  Only 3% were travelling seriously fast through the village (4% in April).

The less good news is that some drivers are still prepared to come through Claxton at around 50MPH.  The 5 times this happened in May were 1510 and 1900 on Friday 3 May, 1640 on Monday 16 May, 1845 on Tuesday 24 May and 0045 on Saturday 28 May.  Two of these were times when children are returning from school and, given reasonable weather, likely to be playing at The Warren or near the road.  It is not acceptable, and our local Beat Manager, PC James King, will see these figures soon.  The Parish Council will continue to communicate with him over this, and it reinforces the thinking behind trying to get a Community Speed Watch team set up here.  More on this at the next Parish Council meeting on Tuesday 19 July.
