Speeding in the village – April 2022 update

The SAM2 completed its second month of its latest deployment in Claxton, and it will move to Langley with Hardley (LwH) at the end of May.  The location in April was the 30MPH repeater post at the Village Hall, facing north-west towards Rockland St Mary and Norwich.  We have downloaded the statistics for the month and these are shown below.

The overall number of vehicles passing the sign was relatively low.  The Easter holiday and end of term for schools will have been part of the reason.  The percentage staying within the legal speed limit was just below November’s figure, with almost 1 in every 4 vehicles passing in excess of the speed limit.  Giving a little bit of flexibility for those marginally over the limit still means around 1 in 24 was speeding.

During the month 362 vehicles drove through at speeds above 35MPH, for which there is no excuse.  We will be discussing this with the police and cover the issue at forthcoming Parish Council meetings, so if any villagers have particular issues we recommend you come along and make your views known.  The next Parish Council meeting is at the Village Hall on Thursday 19 May after the Annual Parish Meeting which starts at 7.30pm.
