Speeding in the village – May 2021 update

The SAM2 has just completed its deployment in Claxton and has transferred to Langley with Hardley, where it will stay till 1 September.  The location in May was the 30MPH repeater post at the Warren, facing towards Loddon.  We have downloaded the statistics for the month and these are shown below.

The overall number of vehicles going north through the village was quite a lot higher than in recent months, possibly an indication of increased activity following the move into Step 3 of the Government’s Covid recovery plan.  19 out of every 20 vehicles passed the monitor within the legal speed limit, and only 1 in over 400 went through between 36 and 40MPH, with no-one travelling faster than that in the same direction during this period.

Compared to previous months this is a very positive picture.  It would be nice to think it was part of a trend going forward but we won’t know for sure until the end of September at the earliest.  Perhaps the location of the monitor – relatively close to the humpback bridge over Carleton Beck and round a tight bend – means cars cannot get going as much as they pass.  Let’s hope not and take some encouragement from these figures.
