Broads Plan 2022-2027 – a message from the Chief Executive

Good afternoon,

Broads Plan 2022-2027

I am very pleased to present the new Broads Plan 2022-2027, the strategic management plan for the Broads National Park.  It can be accessed here.

The Broads Authority works with key partners and many others with an interest in the future of the Broads to implement and update the plan.  Broads Plan 2022-2027 was produced following a consultative review of the 2017 plan and consideration of the key issues, challenges and opportunities facing the Broads.  While we must be realistic, particularly within the current economic climate, we have high aspirations for what we can achieve together for the benefit of our natural and cultural environment, our local communities, and our millions of visitors.

Broads Plan 2022-2027 sets out a long-term vision for the Broads and guides the decisions that affect this special wetland landscape.  Strategic actions are set out under six themes:

· Responding to climate change and flood risk;
· Improving landscapes for biodiversity and agriculture;
· Maintaining and enhancing the navigation;
· Protecting landscape character and the historic environment;
· Promoting understanding and enjoyment;
· Connecting and inspiring communities.

I would like to thank the many organisations, interest groups and individuals who contributed to the plan review process.  Your input emphasizes that this is a plan for the Broads, not just for the Broads Authority, and its successful implementation very much depends on a common vision, strong partnership working and the best use of shared resources.

With regards,

John Packman
