Well there it is. Another Fair on the Yare drew to a close yesterday afternoon, once again blessed by beautiful weather (unlike the previous day). We estimate that, while the numbers were slightly down on 2017, we still had between 950 and 970 people coming through the gates to enjoy a classic countryside day out.
Loddon Band kept us entertained throughout. Queues at the bar, barbecue and ice cream stand were pretty constant throughout and the dog show provided great entertainment to those wishing to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Those who managed to get down on the marsh had an opportunity to watch another Saxon and Viking re-enactment with all the fighting men piling in with great commitment. We can report everyone emerged unscathed. There was also a larger number of other wildlife and countryside exhibitors to see. What did you think of the totally black barn owl?
None of this comes without effort, of course. The hardy group of volunteers who turn out every year to erect tents, collect and shift furniture, bake cakes, put up signs and bunting and man the stalls are the backbone of this enterprise, masterfully choreographed once more by Carolyn Moar.
But we also need to acknowledge the organisations and individuals who support the Fair financially and in other ways, and without whom it would be half the event it is. FOTY Thank you sponsors 2018
