Ducan’s Marsh Open Day 2016 – Sunday 19 June

As foreshadowed in the recent village newsletter Claxton Pits Trust in conjunction with the South Yare Wildlife Group will be holding another Open Day at Ducan’s Marsh on Sunday 19 June between 11am and 3pm.  See the poster below for details.

The Trust and SYWG have been working together over the past 2½ years to manage the site under Natural England guidelines.  Ducan’s is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (Triple SI) and is one of the richest areas of unimproved wet valley grassland now remaining in East Norfolk.  The site has species-rich areas of calcareous fen and grassland communities including, at this time of year, an abundance of orchids and other rare flowers.  This year we will be attempting an Orchid Count which will take place at midday.

Please observe the guidance below on parking as there are no facilities (of any kind) at the site.  The Village Hall will be open for refreshments from roughly 10am to 4pm.ddDucan's Marsh Open Day 2016
