These are exciting times at Claxton & Carleton St Peter Village Hall. We are very proud to announce that the refurbishment of the toilets at the Hall, enabled by a grant from the Community Action Fund, is now complete. The Ladies, Gents and Disabled toilets have all had a complete makeover and have a lovely, bright, fresh new feel. This work represents the first part of our plans to improve facilities at the Village Hall to encourage more people to consider making bookings there for their parties, meetings, wedding receptions, and celebrations of all kinds.
The other big success story to report is the Claxton & Carleton St Peter Community Café, launched in January and going from strength to strength. On the second Tuesday of every month the Village Hall is transformed into a busy, lively café where everyone is invited to come to meet up with old friends and neighbours and also maybe meet new people. We have already received many positive comments and welcome any suggestions about how we can develop the café. Already we have a well-used book exchange and offer newspapers to read and a children’s corner. We are keen to showcase the talents of our local community so invite you to come along with your ideas. We offer a varied and delicious selection of drinks, homemade cakes and savouries to satisfy most tastes – and all priced at a modest 50p per item. So do put these Tuesday dates in your diary – 12th April, 10th May, 14th June, 12thJuly – 10.00am till 12.00 noon.
In an exciting joint venture, the Social Club and Village Hall committee are getting together to hold a Race Night on 11th June. For details see Social Club.
July 23rd is the date for our next Quiz Night, which, if previous Quiz Nights are anything to go by, promises to be another very enjoyable evening. Teams will consist of 6 people, but if you cannot get a team of 6 together before the event, do still come and we can organise you into a team on the night. Tickets will be £8 per head with a delicious two course meal included. Drinks will be available to buy at the bar and there will be a raffle. We would like people to arrive from 7pm for a prompt start at 7.30pm. As we expect demand for places to be high, please ring Julia Kaye on 01508-480527 in advance to book your place and for further details.
