Claxton Village Newsletter, April 2012

You are invited to a Jubilee Celebration on Monday 4th June from 5.00pm until late at the village hall; there will be a BBQ, live music and games for all. A pay licensed bar will be open.

The event is free for all Claxton residents and is being funded by Claxton Pits Trust. There will be a charge of £10 for adults and £5 for children if you wish to bring guests. The event will be ticket only so please apply for your tickets by the 16th May to Mary 480580 or Pat 480317, please state if you would like a vegetarian option.

This promises to be a fun event, so do not miss out!

Later in the evening a beacon will be lit as part of the celebrations. (This is by kind permission of Mr  & Mrs John Heathcote and their farm manager Mr Simon Thearle).

Please note there will be no car parking unless it’s an exceptional need and previously arranged.

Do you have any photographs of Claxton from over the last 60 years, or earlier that we could use in an exhibition (we would copy them and return the originals)?  If so, please contact John Garrod on 480664.

There will be a meeting on 17th May at 7.00pm in the village hall to finalize the Jubilee arrangements, please join us.

We have appointed a new Parish Clerk.  He is Michael Balmer, and some of you may know him as he lives at Mill Lane. Mike will be starting with us at beginning of May.

Marjorie Comley and Alan Ives have both resigned from the Parish Council; we would like to thank them for their contribution to the Council.

We are actively looking for replacements; are you that person? If you are interested please contact anyone listed below.

Wi-Spire, a minimum of twenty five people in Claxton are needed to register their interest in this alternative for broadband connection, please go to to find out more and register, that’s all you need to do at the moment.

The Fair on the Yare committee are looking for volunteers to help on the day, please contact Jackie Swan or Linda Clitheroe.

Please note the Annual Parish Meeting scheduled for the 18th April will now be on 16th May at 7.30pm.
